Freispitze crossing mountaineering Lechtal Tirol

The area at and around the Freispitze (2885m), located in the heart of the Lechtal Alps, is incomparable due to the beauty of the shape of the mountains, the geological complexity and the resulting colorfulness of the rock, the superior rock quality and the seclusion and solitude of the tours.

The area is divided into 6 striking rock formations that adorn the flanks of Freispitze, Rote Platte and Fallenbacher Spitze as if by God's hand. The Upper Rhaetian limestone formations, which rise several hundred meters steeply for climbing, harmonize with the equally solid red Aptychen limestone and yellow or green overgrown friable marl on the flanks of the neighboring extraordinary mountains.

The FREISpitzArena is probably one of the most remote areas for mountaineering and sporty alpine climbing in the entire Alpine region.

The traverse of the Freispitze is an alpine mountaineering with high-altitude character.

The route leads by e-bike through the Madau and Alperschon valleys to the abandoned Alperschonalpe. From there, continue on the trail to the Lärchwaldhütte, and further pathless past the Knappenbödensee to the shoulder on the Rotspitze. In easy climbing and on brittle rock it goes up to the Rotspitze, from there via Rote Platte and Freispitzscharte on the head of the Freispitze. The way back is steep and very exposed over the NW ridge of the Freispitze (Dreischartle) down to the Alperschonalpe.

A very long alpine tour that requires safe weather conditions: Depending on the pace we need 10-14 hours. 1800 hm, 14 km, passages in the 3rd degree of difficulty.
