Freispitze Crossing Mountaineering Lechtal Tirol

The area on and around the Freispitze (2885m), located in the heart of the Lechtal Alps, is incomparable due to the beauty of the mountains, the geological complexity and the resulting colorfulness of the rock, the outstanding rock quality and the remoteness and solitude of the tours. The area is divided into 6 striking rock formations, which adorn the flanks of the Freispitze, Rote Platte and Fallenbacher Spitze as if they had been carved out by the hand of God. The Upper Rhaetian limestone formations, which tower several hundred meters high and were created for climbing, harmonize with equally solid red Aptychen limestone and yellow or green overgrown brittle spotted marl on the flanks of the neighbouring extraordinary mountains. The FREISpitzArena is probably one of the most remote areas for mountaineering and sporty alpine climbing in the entire Alpine region.

The crossing of the Freispitze is an alpine mountaineering tour with the character of a high-altitude tour.

The route leads by e-bike through the Madau and Alperschon valleys to the abandoned Alperschonalpe. From there, continue along the trail to the Lärchwaldhütte hut, and onwards without a trail past the Knappenbödensee lake to the shoulder on the Rotspitze. An easy climb on brittle rock takes you up to the Rotspitze, from there via Rote Platte and Freispitzscharte to the head of the Freispitze. The return route is steep and very exposed via the NW ridge of the Freispitze (Dreischartle) down to the Alperschonalpe. A very long alpine tour that requires safe weather conditions: Depending on the pace, we need 10-14 hours. 1800 hm, 14 km, passages in 3rd degree of difficulty.
