The Freispitze stands as a symbol for the origin of the people here in Tyrol. It is massive and extraordinary in its rock formations, which are very versatile and rise extremely steeply in all directions.
Like Andreas Hofer some 200 years ago, it stands as a rock in the surf of the Lechtal Alps.
On the Große Freispitzüberschreitung, even sporty and experienced mountaineers can hardly beat the 10-hour mark. The ridges and upturns offer wonderful terrain for mountaineering, mostly in the 2nd degree of difficulty.
