Alpine climbing shapes the almost complete mountaineer.

The weather, the conditions on the route, the difficulties on the approach and descent, retreat options, tactics in terms of rope technique, technical skills at the belay stance, rope management and much more demand far more than just your personal climbing ability, which is the main focus in the crag.

All too often, rope teams get into trouble and distress because they can’t cope with the overall demands. The biggest mistakes are usually made during tour planning.

We’ll show you what you need to watch out for—and we’ll show you the path to becoming a mountaineer ;).

Training Content

Day 1

– Tour planning (includes map reading, guidebooks, topography, weather, overall alpine demands …)
– Alpine hazard awareness, gear knowledge, weather and navigation basics
– Warm-up climbing on top rope
– Basics of anchor building and rope-team workflow
– Lead climbing on alpine rock

Day 2

– Multi-pitch training + rope-team workflow
– Rope line, belaying and tactics
– Anchor building and belay management
– Belaying the leader and second from a fixed point
– Retreat/abseiling
– Tour planning for Day 3

Day 3

– Multi-pitch coaching
– Independently completing a route
