Description

Freispitze Traverse Mountaineering Lechtal Tyrol

The area on and around the Freispitze (2,885 m), located in the heart of the Lechtal Alps, is incomparable due to the shapely mountains, geological complexity and the resulting blaze of color in the rock, the outstanding rock quality, and the seclusion and solitude of the tours.

The area is divided into 6 striking rock formations that adorn the flanks of the Freispitze, Rote Platte, and Fallenbacher Spitze as if polished by the hand of God. The several-hundred-meter-high Oberrät limestone formations, seemingly created for climbing, harmonize with the equally solid red Aptychen limestone and the yellow or green-covered brittle Fleckenmergel on the flanks of the neighboring extraordinary mountains.

The FREISpitzArena is one of the most remote areas for mountaineering and alpine sport climbing in the entire Alpine region.

The Freispitze traverse is an alpine mountaineering tour with a high-altitude character.

Great Freispitze Traverse: Traverse of the Freispitze massif from right (Rotspitze) – center (Rote Platte) – left (Freispitze)

The route leads by e-bike through the Madau and Alperschon valleys to the abandoned Alperschonalpe. From there, continue on the trail to the Lärchwaldhütte, and then off-trail past the Knappenbödensee to the shoulder of the Rotspitze. With easy climbing on brittle rock, you ascend to the Rotspitze, then over the Rote Platte and Freispitzscharte to the summit of the Freispitze. The return journey is steep and very exposed via the NW ridge of the Freispitze (Dreischartle) down to the Alperschonalpe.

A very long alpine tour that requires stable weather conditions: Depending on your pace, we need 10-14 hours. 1,800 m elevation gain, 14 km, passages of grade 3 difficulty.
